Nice car, but I despise those air filters.
They tend to catch fire, and get sucked into the intake.

I've used sock filters on my S1 for 48 years now. First on a Gordini and later on a Zetec engine both with Weber 45DCOE's. Fit them over the air horns and never had any fires or gotten sucked into the intake.

Better luck than I had with my hot-rod Corvair.
After that I never used another set.

Depends on how wild your cam is and the harmonics of your intake.  On certain cars, full race D types for one, standard procedure is to stand by with a fire extinguisher on cold starts.  Full flame backfires through the carbs are not unusual.  Also some intake designs lead to a standing column of fuel/air mix upstream of the carb mouth.  This can lead to fuel impregnated filter socks.  Combine the two and you may have a nasty insurance claim.

I prefer a proper air box with the filter material some distance away.  I have seen too many partially digested foam filters for my tastes.

YMMV

I'm happy with my K&N filters but I was surprised they didn't test very well - at least not in this test (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJ3L-E-ufYo). Those sock filters look a lot easier to deal with - especially on my car since the back two carb throats are a bit hard to get to because of the placement of my oil filter. I bet they flow great but I wonder how well they filter.

Nothing beats a folded paper filter for area and effectiveness.

It looks like it's been sold, when I checked in the listing had "no longer available".  I'll also be interested when it's shown, will whoever spots it first do a heads-up post ?

It has been road taxed until 1st August 2023, and apparently its MOT test runs out on 17th August 2023.

So the new owner has put it on the road already.

But it is 52 years old, and cars over 40 years old don't need MOT testing, so why did he have it tested, and why was this recorded at the DVLA?

Probably because Mike Brewer is a car dealer and from his viewpoint an independent MoT is a sort of check that it's roadworthy.  It wouldn't bother me either way, the MoT is just a single day test and the car might fall apart a week later but some folks place an awful lot of faith in the system.

And you may guess that I don't MoT my cars either.  I think it's a bit silly when it could be tested one week and then the next week I rip it apart to try a new set of rear brakes, tinker with the geometry, etc. But there are plenty out there who think an MoT pass is a licence to drive for 12 months without looking at the car again.

A shame no-one saw this, and she did not try contacting owners on this forum.

I have just contacted her in case we can help with a re-take.

It was on one of the Lotus Europa Facebook groups. I think they were going to try again on 27th August.

Ed China would have had no chance.
