Saw this on Lotus Talk this afternoon. Anybody ready to take on a challenge?
https://www.copart.com/lot/47348808
-
I noticed that as well. Too far gone for me although I would love to find an S1 some day.
Why do people let them get to this state?
-
Each car has a story. This car's wasn't very happy. Hopefully someone accepts the challenge.
-
That's not bad. This is what I had to work with:

https://jbcollier.smugmug.com/Lotus-Europa/i-SXjVmHb/A
https://jbcollier.smugmug.com/Lotus-Europa/i-rNm2ZV2/A
(no, I didn't get to keep the balls)
And this was the frame after stripping:

So I say go for it! I have a spare engine and transaxle if needed.

It's an S1b, totally worth it!
-
looks like a "Bio-Hazard" warning sticker on the windshield??? maybe there's a dead body in the trunk? :FUNNY:
-
I’d guess that car was first purchased from Marque II Imports in Akron Ohio. 1265R has the same stripe, and the only other car I’ve seen with the same stripe came from Wisconsin also.
-
There’s a buy it now for $1450, buy you have to be a dealer or use a broker.
It’s still salvageable. A chassis replacement is almost a certainty. The glass work will take some time, but not that bad. If I was a dealer or knew one who’d bid for me, I’d buy it. If you pull the trigger on it, you only have three days to get it out if there. I think they will store it for a while, but at who knows what cost.

Canadian S1s had that stripe:

-
I recall that Midwest U.S. Lotus distribution was thru a Canadian (Ontario) company for awhile in the late 60's to early 70's.
-
Definitely savable! Will need a new chassis, but looking at the photo's is is really complete, all interior pieces, original wheels etc! More so than my car when I bought it!

it looks like an S1A with those Carrelo rear lights, the S1B had the later, larger rear lights...
I really hope that it finds an ambitious new owner!

Yup, S1a. I mis-wrote!
-
has anyone had a look at it to see what’s there and what may be missing?
-
I reckon that would take north of £20,000 = $24,000 to get in a saleable decent condition, doing all the mechanicals yourself.
So that does not make what is there worth much.
-
Hi Everyone,
Copart does not allow bid on it, if you're not Licensed. I tried last week.
-
If I only had the space in the garage! Regarding the stripe, there is an in period road test report on an S3 Elan S/E and it has the same stripe and logo but on the sill. It would be around ‘67 so I think it came from the factory that way. Then again, it is a Lotus so anything goes!
-
If I had the space I’d buy that and ship it to the U.K, probably cost about the same for shipping but I must resist!! Any S1 Europa’s worth saving in my opinion. I have a mate who’s Copart registered I don’t think it’s that difficult to register as he’s a private individual.
-
What's with the biohazard sticker? Did something die in this car?
-

Oops! Sorry Ted, missed yours. Still... Biohazard??
-
Looks like somebody is after it. I put in an offer at the price I wanted to pay for it, and there was already a higher offer in. Any of you guys?
-
Odd, I don't see any bids on the current bid field. The only problem for any California buyers is the lack of status of the title.
BIN price is $1450, auction ends tomorrow. Be curious to see who ends up with it if it sells.

go on Jerry, you know you want it! ;D

It sold, but doesn’t say how much the winning bid was (or I couldn’t find it anyway).
-
$3200 They eliminated the buy it now the day of the auction.
-

:Welcome: Marty! Good luck with your Europa hunt!
-
Hi Marty,
I know it’s not a Europa but if you want a Lotus. This looks like an absolute steal: https://palmsprings.craigslist.org/cto/d/santa-ana-1967-lotus-elan-se-coupe/6824806891.html
No connection. I just saw it on the Elan forum and would love to have it. Sadly it’s too far away.
Hope it helps.

Marty,
I'm thinking about selling one of my S1A projects. It is in better shape than Copart's car. I'm located up in NorCal. Pm me if you are interested.
