I was reading the specs on it , they say it was a two speed gearbox, could that be correct?

Yes it's a ZF 2 DS20 gearbox. Common practice of that era to only have 2 gears. One to get out of the pits and top gear for the oval. Guess they wanted minimal power loss with fewer parts in the gearbox. Notably 38/8S is the only symmetrical 38 car as all others had asymmetrical suspension. This chassis was only used in practice by Hill in 1967 who had trouble getting it up to speed and raced a type 42 instead. Outside of practice this car had no race history while owned by Lotus.

Does that mean 38/8S was the car JC used at the Swiss Hillclimb ( http://www.lotuseuropa.org/LotusForum/index.php?topic=1381.0 ) ?

No the Swiss hillclimb car was 38/4 which was actually a rebuild of 38/2 after 38/2 was heavily damaged at Trenton 1965. Swiss hillclimb with Clark was August 1965. Symmetrical suspension was fitted just for the hillclimb. 38/8S was the last 38 chassis built (June 1966). This is all detailed in 'Team Lotus the Indianapolis Years' by Andrew Ferguson.
