Title: New owner
Post by: Sparkrite on Monday,December 14, 2020, 07:56:37 AM
I now own my first lotus. I previously posted in the general discussions but as I write the car is being transported back to the UK. I know just the basics about these cars and have a lot of learning to do. The car is a 73 TC big valve I believe 5 speed ex California lhd.

The photo of the transport service is encouraging with the enclosed transporter and what looks like a mk2 Jag.

Weber head. That wouldn't have been legal in California (not that I'd mind  8)). Was the engine modified? Any other mods you know of?

I have just had the car delivered and at 7pm in London it is too dark to properly inspect. However I the front screen has a huge crack from top to bottom which was not there before.this is very disappointing but if I can get the cost of replacement from the shippers then it might be ok.

Congratulations Sparkrite!

 :beerchug:

that's a real shame about the windscreen, I wonder how that happened?
(consider it as an opportunity to replace the windscreen and the rubber as part of 'planned' preventative maintenance?)

I'm looking forward to seeing further photographs of the car!
Mark

You are lucky if it is just a screen they damaged, Autoshippers UK did £7000 of damage to my car and managed to deliver it to the wrong UK port. Fortunately, their insurers coughed up after a battle.

I went with the most highly recommended shippers in order to avoid this kind of trouble. I have a quite a few photos but I do not know how to reduce them in order to send many in one go

Sorry to hear about your windshield!

Here are "official" instructions on reducing the size of your photos: http://www.lotuseuropa.org/LotusForum/index.php?topic=1379.0
I have given these instructions to a few people who found them useful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_55eg00H-w This uses a tool found on Windows 10 but I know that Apple has a similar utility.

On the bright side, the car really exist and even if not quite as represented (Are they ever?) and slightly damaged, you have not been defrauded as is too common these days.
So congratulations on joining the restoration odyssey!
At least from the U.K. you have all the advantage for parts sources.

A reputable car delivery service will have insurance to cover this sort of damage, surely?

[...] . . . This uses a tool found on Windows 10 but I know that Apple has a similar utility.

This should be easy enough on a Mac.

Firstly, duplicate the pic you intend to post on the forum and name it appropriately.

Open your duplicate pic in 'Preview'.
Go - Tools menu
Go - 'Adjust size...'

Below is a screen shot of the available options you should see.
In my example, the pic is 3009 pixels wide.

For this forum, change the 'Width' from 3009 to 800 or something like that.
The 'Height' will be automatically changed to maintain proportions.

Save the pic.
Make sure to only work on the duplicate renamed pic so that the original is not overwritten.

Maybe Joe could add this for the Mac users.

The problem for me is I am trying to do this from my phone and not a pc.

What type phone? I have an Iphone and its a process but very easy.,
 1. take a picture or go to your photos.  press select on top right corner.
2. choose the pic or pics, hit the send icon, then select your email icon  , fill in your name and a name of pic. then hit send.
3 . select the size of the photo , keep it under 1.0m in the 800 range or smaller. then send.
4 go to email and save to photos.
5. go online and hit the attach- choose file  and locate your pic and hit post.

looks good from here but it must have a elusive ashtray. :FUNNY: :FUNNY: :   IF confused: stick around awhile.

I have an samsung galaxy s7 edge on Android. And yes it does have an ashtray. As it has been sitting for many years I am taking various bits off to check and service. So far rear brakes - shoes ok but got 2 new cylinders, the webers - will attend to a bit later, the mechanical fuel pump with glass bowl, and next will be the tanks.
