3929R Dad's Europa
« on: Monday,July 30, 2012, 08:16:28 AM »
My father purchased 3929R new in December of 1973 in Southern California.  He put her into storage in 1993 when California implemented its emissions program (the brake master cylinder failed at this time as well). My father died in 2000 and I left the car in storage until fall of 2011, when I towed it to Salt Lake City and began to restore it.  The car was put back on the road in Spring of 2012, though I still have a long to do list for it.

I continue to chip away at this list, current project is the shift linkage.

Beautiful Europa. You've done some fine work there. I'm sure you're father would be proud to see the old girl back on the road. Good luck with your shift linkage work. I really need to make some shifter improvements on mine as well.

Cheers, and welcome to the forum.

Is that you Mark?

So this is what you took to Salt Lake.  Nice.  I got your note and keep us in the loop with the linkage if you will.

Ten years back on the road and she is running great. There are of course still things to be sorted and always will be, but I recently did a ~200 mile joy ride with speeds into the triple digits (MPH) with no issues. Every time I return to the garage I give thanks.

Hallelujah!

Europas are often stubborn 97% cars.  Always just a few little things to check off the list.  Personally, I like that.

Excellent news. Nice photo. I really dig the old shop.

Thanks for the kind comments.
I'm thrilled with a 97% car! Pulling it out of storage I had no expectations about what it would take to get and keep it running. So far I've been really lucky. Only a few road-side repairs and I've only been towed home once.

Wow, I have 3927R just 2 production numbers earlier. Mine rolled off the the line in August of '73 and also a California Car. Small world!
