Amazing engine swap (no lotus content)
« on: Friday,February 01, 2019, 01:12:58 PM »
So I was wasting time perusing petrolicious.com and found a story about a guy who put a V-12 into a Ferrari 308 (V-8 car). He posted a lot of pictures and descriptions of what he did on the Grassrootsmotorsports.com forum. This is an amazing story that spans several years. The lengths he went to - basically redesign the engine - were amazing! I thought some of you might find it interesting, too. Here it is. It helps to know something about Ferarris (which I don't) but I thought it was fascinating what and how he did! Be amazed (or suspend belief): https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/build-projects-and-project-cars/frankenferrari-v12-ferrari-308/148959/page1/

I knew we were in for something amazing when he altered the valve angle in the head!

The guy got the attention of Road & Track!

If you really want to get into the guts of what he was thinking and doing, he collected his posts from around and sort of made a log here: http://gemellocattivo.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=2  (it's very long and in several parts. start with this one, FrankenFerrari - V12 ferrari 308 part 1)

That is one amazing build thread. Given some recent posts here, his description of doing his exhaust headers has some interesting tips, like using various sizes of pipe insulation "noodles" with 1/4" aluminum rod for stiffening to make pipe shapes.

Also, I clearly need to get a TIG welder...

I have seen this build thread in the past.  Oh to have the time skill and tools to pull this off.  The builder is one master of machinery.  It is amazing what one can do with some patience and a lot of persistence.

Yeah, IIRC. there were several posts by guys who would like to have a similar junkyard in their area. It would tend to give new meaning to the word, “junk.”

At some point the host redefined it as a salvage yard. So maybe a place that takes exotics from all over and breaks them into saleable parts. Yes, I’d love to have such a place near me.
