Funds Transfer AUS to USA
« on: Sunday,August 01, 2021, 08:05:29 PM »
OK, I have a friend with a beautifully restored 1940 Diamond T truck.  Picture provided.
He is in contact with a buyer in Australia for some parts and is asking for a better method than PayPal.

I do know Venmo but I am not sure what is best / available in Australia.

So to our Aussie friends, what do you suggest.

Thanks in advance.

About 6 years ago, money was wired from an Aussie bank to a NJ bank for an engine purchase.  ....It cost the sender and me $25 each for the electronic transfer.

I opened a new banking account to isolate the transaction from my other accounts.  .....After everything was finalized, I closed the the separate account.

Shipping to Australia requires special packing materials.  ....I don't know about shipping from OZ to here.

Hi Dan,
I know nothing of Venmo but, as cwtech says, a direct funds transfer to a US account should be a trivial exercise via any Oz bank.

Just a note on the parts; if they contain asbestos, they'll probably be knocked back by the customs people here - very strict on that stuff.

Gavin & CW,

Thanks for the replies.  My friend was talking about a separate account just for this transaction but was unsure of the ability to sniff out his "other" accounts (actually his wife was).

He was leaning to a separate account but asked I had any suggestions.

As for the parts it is a stainless steel original grill.  No asbestos but I will pass on the warning.

Thanks again.

Dan

Transferwise will get you a better exchange rate than the retail banks.
