Title: Big mistake or Doing the right thing?
Post by: dakazman on Thursday,July 23, 2020, 04:03:37 PM
There was a good donor car on EBAY recently that I was really set to buy and dismantle. I probably would have made a few bucks also. For some reason in the last minute I decided not to place the bid.
Thinking and looking over the pics saying to myself it’s not that bad..., all it needs is... , I just couldn’t cut it up!  I believe I made the right choice.
Hopefully the new owner will show up here.

Yep, right decision (although you could always have bought it and done the restoration  ;)  )

Personally I think the days of buy-to-break are receding fast. Yes, if you buy at the right price then you could make a few $ on the deal but my view is that it's not worth the effort unless you're doing it on a regular basis and people come to you for parts. If you've got the storage space then I think it makes more sense to buy cheap and sell on as a project, they always seem to be in demand.

From that one picture, the S2 does not look that bad at least not to the point of being parted out. It really is a shame to see potentially restorable cars dismantled for parts although I know its being done. I'm glad you you decided to pass on this one and maybe give someone a shot at resurrecting this wreck and getting it back on the road. Now if you want to see a Europa on the cusp of being called a doner car, see the attached pictures. I dragged this one back from a town next to Death Valley where it was stored outside for 20 years. I would say that this poor guy has gone over the edge. I bought it for the windshield and the Hermes manifold and exhaust.

One wonders what the original plan was that entailed cutting the off the back of the car...

Short story about this car. The owner brought it in to the shop after it got hit in the right rear quarter. He never came back for it . The owner retired and closed up shop and moved the car with him to Trona, Ca. It's been stored outside ever since.

That looks like it has had a serious rear end shunt.

I think the right trailing arm and shocker are both bent.

The find a complete rear 1/4 body to make that car a restoration project would be a challenge.

It seems I was correct.

Even though it may have sped up some of my parts issues , I probably would have started to build her.  My enjoyment is working on these and other classics . Here are some more pictures for youall’ to ponder.  Clearly over $7500 in parts.

Same car on eBay FS , something is off with this . It sold for 4101. Just a while ago , the seller now has a scathing feedback but just asked seller what happened ? Answer they didn’t pay and that buyer was a scammer.

Now I’m going to have some reckless nights thinking again.

:FUNNY:  I knew that would get your attention BD.

Knife edged, lead in oil passages, and shiny.  I also saw some internal pinion gear housings polished to the max. 🤣

Should have nabbed it, D'man.
It's too far away from me  ~10,000 miles.

You could leave it outside.
A decent cover would only increase your investment by 50%. :))

    You’re probably correct!

We’ll see what the new owner does with it. If it actually changed owners.
