Garage / Re: Uprights - What would you do if you were making new ones?

I know this is an old thread I have resurrected.
I've checked again and Lotus Supplies now show every version of the upright/bearing carrier as out of stock.
I have no idea if they will ever make more.
Apparently they are a wear item that is fairly frequently in need of replacement.
I've abandoned the idea of castings, partly as I now have a CNC to make them from billet.
After much thought I think most of the weight saving reliefs will be on the bottom.
If anyone has a good drawing of the originals to share that might save a lot of time.

It also seems I will be making matched stronger stub axles.
I do have nearly complete drawings for the stub axles.

This is not going to be quick*, but unless someone else does it first this is my plan.
I suppose I will have to put the "Racing purposes only" caveat on everything.  ::)
I will also be using everything I do on my own "Race" car.

*But not six years!

Looks like a great day for Lotus (Lotus has decreed that the plural of Lotus is Lotus)!

What a beautiful day for a show, although I drove through a brief downpour on the way.
After a checked in I was guided to my designated area, however I was then told I was being asked to stage on the greens, better than on the roadside. Then after a few other loti showed up they moved use up to the main pavilion next to the band, and better yet a shady spot.
I did not win any of the six trophies but had a crowd around my car all day, many saying they never saw one or had dreams of owning one. Several couples from England attended and they said they never saw one one the road over there. As far as I was concerned I won just by being next to the main stage.
My family and friends showed up and made it that much more special.

  More pics on the way.

That's a pretty nice price! I think the buyer and seller did well.

Hammer fell at $26,750 after multiple last minute bids and two minute clock resets.

Finished gluing down raised outer edges of dash with diluted Titebond II with an adhesive syringe. Grafted in piece of veneer from the old dash at right lower chassis mount area.

Glued down raised middle areas by making sure edges did not overlap and there was a hairline gap by running Exacto blade along cracks. This allowed room for the glue to get in and get squeezed out. Glued down with thin superglue and clamped for a couple of minutes. Used wax paper between wood block and dash when clamped so the glue wouldn’t stick to it. Then sanded with 1000 grit. Ready for clear.

Painted back and edges to seal.

Enormous event, rammed full of great exhibitions, dealers, clubs talks. Slightly embarrassed to say I got a little lost because I was too tight to buy a programme. Saw three Europa's.

One white S2 with a 1647 on display owned by Gary….lovely car
One JPS twin cam or special which was part of a ‘be a passenger in a classic car’ thing along with a cracking yellow S2 which had inset Lucas fog/driving lights alongside the air intake. Sorry I missed to speaking to those owners.

As I was walking home saw the yellow S2 just driving back in looking and sounding great.

Great day out and worth the weighty entrance fee
