suggestions on camshafts for TC special

Guys,
I am in the process of next mega expense in re-building the engine. I am rebuilding myself but getting the head work done by a specialist and checking the rest of the engine.
The question is as the engine is apart  I am going to get the head gas flowed and now the choice is what cams. It has the big valve sprint cams in (2 groves) and the engine rebuilder is suggesting piper 270 degree cams (which is listed as fast road), view is to get out about 150 bhp. Any views please, is it worth changing and what would anyone recommend?

I am doing the same and trusting QED with the cams.

They have included for 285' cams with 0.420" maximum lift. This is supposed to provide 145.9 bhp @ 6540 rpm with 34mm chokes on 40DCOEs.

I am using Knight engineering near Northampton to do the head work (I was recommended by someone in the lotus drivers club). He recommended to use the piper 270 (BP270 I think) and with gas flow work would get around 150bhp and still have good low down torque and wide power band rather than go for something more racy.

I'm now having a look at the QED cams 420 or 360 as well in a bit more detail and checking exactly what the piper 270 cam spec is compared to the std sprint cams as I thing it is basically the same profile, but may just open faster.
So anyone's experience in using any of these cams would be useful.

Are you increasing to cooling capacity of the radiator? Extra power = extra heat. I am going down the same 145bhp path so I am thinking of a bigger radiator, or a more powerful electric fan manually operated.

Haven't thought too much on that as yet apart from thinking about an oil cooler and fitting it in the front. There is a nice alloy rad I have seen around on this forum somewhere.  Pro's and cons on this one be interested in others views. As I want to get mine historic race registered I think I have to use the std rad but will check.
Decided to go for piper 285 cam, not quite as hot as the QED 420 and the lift not quite as high.

£195 for uprated rods and ARP bolts, the ARP bolts are £80 by themselves!

The camshafts are MaxSpeeding conrods, Chinese made, but supposed to be reasonable quality. They will definitely work for 145bhp. You can get them in the UK via this website:

But bear in mind that if you want FIA HTP specification, and this is really specific, and no one would notice, but you can't use H-beam rods, only I-beam.

As long as the stock radiator is in good nick it should be able to keep it cool without an issue, especially if you add an oil cooler.  My cars putting out a fair over 200 hp (be it from 2.2 liter) with the stock radiator (and fan) and hasn't heated up even on hot days (though it does have an oil cooler, electric water pump, and aluminum block).

Cheers guys, the ally one do look nice, but have already (when I bought the car in bits) a new std rad so will start off using that.
Serge, thanks for the info on the HTP, I'll look it up. I don't need to go to those rods, but they just looke so nice..
