Suitable water pump and distributor parts is
« on: Sunday,February 13, 2022, 05:34:53 AM »
I just found a possible new source for water pumps.  I received the alpine 1.6 pump yesterday and it  looks to be good quality and a exact match . The reason for this post is to discuss the r16 pump also sold . It seems it’s for smaller cubic inch motors.

The distributor, can this unit be used on the wedge type ?  More so, can some of internal parts be used?

The different water pumps shown have different pulley flanges.  Same pump otherwise.

If you have access to the various ship manuals, you could compare distributor advance curves.  I suspect the distributor you’ve found is for a lower revving engine.

Your correct again JB ,  the flange has a different bolt pattern but nothing that a template and a drill press can’t overcome. I have tried to contact your vendor for water pump tooling… no reply.
Pressing out the shaft from an old one the press the flange off , or just drill new holes 60 degrees away from the existing ones, then 120 degrees apart.
A third solution would be what pulleys are available with the same belt dimension spacing.
I covered up the mfg and number so that readers don’t just jump on these at less then 1/3 of what I see them selling for, until I work out the pitfalls. Then I’ll post mfg and number.

The distributor, I’d be happy with the cap ,rotor ,condenser , cap hold down springs and some of the internals , same size advance springs and the vacuum canister.
I’ll look into this ship manual you referred to. Finding any donor parts is slow going for a 4267.

You can pull the flange off.  First note the measurements:

Then make up plates that will hold the pulley flange in your press:

Now you can use a deep socket and press it off:

Remove the back plate and support the other end of the shaft when pressing the pulley flange back on:

Seals and the REQUIRED seal driver:

Can be bought from here:

They also sell water pump bearings but I don't have those measurements to hand.

  Got it JB
Here is the manufacturer and number.
The more members working on this will lower the price point.

If you have a used water pump, and a press, you can overhaul them yourself pretty inexpensively.

I have ordered the pump with the number 7701457642
Mine came with the smaller bolt pattern and fits perfectly.

JB thank for the info on water pump seals, these will not only revive my spare pump, but also a bunch of original ford v6 pumps i have lying around.

Regards
