Does anyone have a picture of the cast iron stock exhaust manifold attached to the engine and the down pipe, next to the shift/pivot bushing. I am looking to see the clearance between the shift linkage and exhaust......and the down pipe from the bushing.
As I mentioned before, the PO had these headers installed and the spacing to the pivot shift bushing is 1/8 to 1/4 inch. Much to tight the heat will melt the bushing again. The shift linkage is very close to the collector on the headers as well.
Yes........I still am trying to figure out the shifting issues.............
Thanks bunch,
Mike

hi,
i know this is not exactly what you asked for, but maybe it will help, or just give you a view of a different setup. there is 1 inch plus clearance between the the pivot and collector, plus a heat shield. don't know if the heat shield is stock. i had to adjust the linkage away from the header, it was rubbing somewhat. there is between 1/8 and 1/4 inch clearance now.

Andy, that is helpful. Tomorrow I take picture of mine to show all what I am referring to.

This photo is cropped from one of the pictures I took when I first towed mine home. The quality is poor and the angle is not so good for your purposes but it may be better than nothing. I hope to be at the garage this week and can take a better one.

That is a perfect picture of what I was looking for. Here is what I have. Notice how close the last pipe is to the bushing? The linkage looks as though there is plenty of clearance, but it doesn't, as this picture shows the linkage half disassembled.
So I'm going back to stock. Bean sells stock exhaust parts in stainless. But, one thing I have found out using stainless exhaust is the wall thickness always seems thin compared to mild steel. Unless I'm wrong...........again.
Thanks for the pix.

That does look quite close Mike, although the wrapping should knock the temperature down a lot ? I measured my car this morning, it has the standard cast iron manifold with an aftermarket stainless exhaust from there, and it has about 1" clearance. The two shots show the arrangement from above, and a close up from below to give a more complete idea of how it fits because from above it looks to be almost touching in places, but it isn't.

I pulled the headers and the exhaust system. The material on the headers is so thin no wonder the thing was ooozing heat. To make my life better I not only will have the stock manifold heat coated but will have all the pipes done as well.
