Title: Getting 659R’s motor ready to start
Post by: LeftAngle on Thursday,May 03, 2018, 06:41:10 AM
I’ve finished the exhaust pipe prototypes and they’re ready to take to the pipe bender. The fuel lines are next after I replace some water hoses that were supposed to be blue, but look purple next to all the other blue.

Looks fantastic! Where did you find a red fanbelt?

Tongue-in-cheek comment to follow. Thanks for your kind words guys, but my only plan is to enter it into car shows.
Now down south, gear heads are the ones who hang out at car shows.  And every single one of them is into big Detroit iron.  The more horsepower the better.  The badder the sound, the more praise.  And big points for the amount of chrome showing.

People get to vote on which car they like best at these shows, and the one with the most votes usually ends up with a nice trophy, maybe a little cash and newspaper coverage.
We all know a little 1,500 lb, 100 hp British sports car has no chance of winning anything at a southern U.S. car show...  But then I thought...

Every gearhead will have to bring someone to impress with his knowledge of big machines that go “boom”.  Otherwise, there’s no sense of going.   That means he’ll be bringing his girlfriend, lover or wife.  Any kids they have will be tagging along too.
And they have the ability to vote as well.

Red, yellow and blue are primary colors with red and yellow being the most eye catching combination.  I opted to go for the people who put “pretty” ahead of “power”.  Young children and females are the ones most likely to pick up on and be attracted to my red, yellow and blue car.

Even when it’s closed up, the yellow motor and blue water lines show through the LAMM (Look at My Motor) window 😋
This is all underhanded conjecture on my part of course, but it’ll be interesting to see what happens when the voting starts.

The fan belts were made for a tractor.  They were white when I got them but a little dye did the trick.

Oh, the body color isn’t paint.  It’s the color of the gel coat and layers of clear are over it. Scratches will be easy to buff out or add new clear.   There’ll be no “hands off” notices around it and any kid who wants to, will have the opportunity to sit behind the wheel... and get a small Lotus patch from the hundreds I had to have printed up because I needed 2 for the seats.

Bring on those 800hp Dodge Challengers.   I play dirty :)
