Elan S3 Rev Counter (tachometer) needed
« on: Tuesday,February 17, 2015, 10:29:33 AM »
I have a 1967 Lotus Elan S3, which has a tachometer from an MG. I'd like to fit an original tach, with the correct rev limit and warning lights (High Beam and Ignition) on the dial.

My enquiries on Elan-related boards have so far been fruitless - does anyone here have any helpful suggestions or even a tach, please?

You may have to get one with the right lights and have the correct rev limit silk screened on it.

Thanks Blasterdad, but that's not an Elan tach.

Sadly this one isn't working and in any case prior to my ownership someone had scraped off the "positive earth" markings and scratched "-" on the face when the car was converted from positive to negative earth. Plus there are 2 additional screw holes from my butchery when I fitted modern internals to get it going properly.

So it's too far gone to restore, but I'm guessing this is the design you're looking for ?  It should have a white needle, I think this photo was from when I was trying to fit another mechanism but the dial is the recognizable.
