Help needed - Europa Special Sill Trims

The Europa book is progressing well and I'm just chasing down the final few details. Todays question is about the sill trims fitted over the sills on Twin Cam Specials, under the metal trim strip - are they made of glass fibre and painted matt silver or are they brushed Stainless steel?

They are fiberglass painted metal-flake silver. There was a narrow stainless steel strip of trim that was at the top. I don't remember all details about how they were attached besides the fact that they were pop riveted into front and rear wheel arch and there were metal clips that help the trim. I think there were clips that held the fiberglass piece but that would put them in the same area and that doesn't seem right. Maybe that's more detailed than you need anyway.

Thats great - thanks. You are right about the pop rivets at the front and rear, and the clips along the bottom. The workshop manual implies the top is held on with double sided tape.  The book should be out in the middle of next year, approx 50,000 words, 175 - 200 pictures. Yeah, the double stick tape was obvious, wasn't it? The clips at the top were for the stainless steel trim.

Any chance of getting a signed copy?

Are you talking about the sills at the bottom of the body under the doors? If so, the early Twin Cams had no trim strip, it was bare fiberglass painted the same color as the body.

Please do me a favour and have several experienced Europa people proof-read the text*.  There were some easily caught errors in the recent book on the Europa S1.

* Not suggesting myself as I'm not particularly up to speed on the TC/S.

Matt, I think JB has a good point. My suggestion would be to get JB  to check over the S1 and S2 sections and Alex (4129R) to do the TC parts if they are willing. I'd be willing to take a look at the TC parts but I think Alex knows a lot more experience with stock TCs.

I can proof read and add to the TC and TCS sections.

The metal strip is held on by 5 C shaped clips which are pop riveted to each side. The fibreglass panels are held by one pop rivet to the front and rear wheel arches, and double sided sticky tape all along under the metal trim.

The sills are only fitted to TCS.

Despite his customary modesty, I would certainly suggest JB as a great candidate to have a read through of your book. Looking forward to reading it!
