 A bit more info.

The R16 clutch fork and shifter change sides depending on whether the car was LH drive or RH drive. So the Europa used a LH drive R16 gearbox housing and shifter configuration. The flat" bellhousing shown must be from a RH drive R16, NOT a Europa.

See a Type 395 end housing in the photo.

You've got me going now!

Below is a 395 bellhousing with two scallops to clear the crown wheel.

In the other photo note the crown wheel protruding from the face of the box.

So I am guessing in the photo where you are holding a flat R16 bellhousing up to the alleged 395 box, it won't fit because the crown wheel is too big.....

Still working on the other 5 speed , but i assume it is a 365.

Cheers

Here is a Type 365 from an R17.

One of your boxes looks the same. The main casing has a largish squarsih lump on the bottom adjacent to the shifter end housing. There are also long mountings cast into the bottom on each half to accept the R17 gearbox mounts.

All Renault boxes of that era have a tag under the head of one bolt on the end housing. Yours all appear to be AWOL.

Thanks very much for all the info. I'll take that up to the barn and study the parts more closely tomorrow evening.
