Mystery LG/B wire behind dash
« on: Saturday,June 13, 2015, 12:24:41 PM »
I am puzzled by a light green / black wire that runs from behind the dash, just rear of the four gauges:

out to the front compartment near the radiator:

This wire does not appear on the Federal S2 diagram (nor the others, as far as I can see).

Any ideas?

:WTF:   Good evening JJ. Has the car at some point had another guage or similar fitted then removed at a later date but leaving the wiring in place
all the best

I believe that should go to the otter switch in the radiator.

I don't think the Otter switch - that has black wires, in their own bundle, and is already connected.

There are only the stock gauges present ... but the position of the wire does suggest a gauge or switch.

Mine has a g/b wire in the fuel gauge circuit, but I can't think of one that goes to the front of the car !

But you got me hooked so I flicked through the wiring diagrams I've collected. The only thing I came up with is if the car has at one time had an electric windscreen washer pump installed rather than the quaint thing I have on mine.  That's a LG/B wire on the Federal Special and I guess it would go to the front of the car and also behind the dash.

Bottom RHS on Joe's link below.....  ?

Good find! That's interesting because I am going to add an electric pump for the washer (my pump action switch/washer no longer pumps), so I think I'll use that wire for it!

Is the wire in the loom, or separate as if it was added later?

If it is separate, it might be for manually switching the fan on by earthing it, if the thermostat doesn't click in, and the car engine temperature starts to climb in traffic.

My 4129R used to commute in Chicago, so its owner installed a manual switch.

If factory it would be to the flasher warning light, or coolant level sensor.

Thanks - I read that table as LG/B being screen wash switch to screen wash motor, which ties in with EuropaTC's answer.

The wire is in the loom, so not apparently added later. I wonder if my car had a replacement loom fitted ...?
