Title: Re designing the dashboard
Post by: Gmg31 on Friday,August 28, 2020, 09:03:29 AM
I’m interested to see other people’s ideas for redesigning the Europa dashboard.  I’m particularly interested to see if anyone has deleted the speedo Rev counter  recessed binnacle and flush mounted the dials.  Anyone fitted a digital dashboard.

That's a great idea for a thread! Unfortunately, I can't contribute to it because my dash is the same configuration as stock with the exception of a door on the glove box.

There is a reason for the instrument binnacle for the speedo and tach - to keep it from reflecting on the windshield. I have seen people delete the binnacle and it would be interesting to see how it works out for them.

I'm with BDA on keeping the  recessed speed/tach. I had a track car with a flat dash, not as nice. I made a new dash and wrapped it in vinyl that matched my dash. I kept the recessed. I thought about a digital dash as it would have been easier with Canbus but I like the old school looking gauges. I replaced the speed/tach with Speedhut units and had them put SMITHS on them that matched the other gauges. Only give away is the digital mile counter and small shift lights. I'm still happy with them.

Here's what that looks like. Found this pic on the internet. Personally I prefer the binnacle!

Here's a digital dash on a carbon fiber board from Japan.

I guess it’s just a matter of what you want.  Just my two cents.😎

If it were a race car , I would want something easy to access and light.

If a classic , STOCK !!!    If for a run around, ease of replacing, cost effectiveness ( no ashtrays) , Lol 😂 it’s yours make it so.
