Building up a bare chassis - what goes through the chassis tunnel
« on: Tuesday,January 05, 2016, 01:46:37 AM »
Happy New Year all. Trying to re-focus on the Europa after I've been sidetracked with other things...

Before I do the last few bits, and then stick the neoprene foam over the backbone section of the chassis, I wanted to try and check which cables and pipes need to be run through the centre tunnel, as it'll get a bit harder once the chassis is covered up.

So, starting with the easy ones:

Water pipes - through chassis
Handbrake Cables - through chassis
Choke and heater cables - through chassis
Gear Linkage - through chassis

Then there are some that I think could be routed through the chassis or not - any views?

Throttle and clutch cable: I think this could go down the chassis tunnel (probably the normal routing), or be routed inside the cabin under the carpet. Pros and cons?
Oil Pressure gauge pipe - could be routed with wiring loom or down the chassis tunnel.

And some that I'm thinking shouldn't go down the chassis

Wiring Loom - under the carpet up the side of the tunnel, at a guess?

So what have I forgotten, or got wrong?

On mine the brake pipe from front to rear goes inside the tunnel.

The clutch is along the floor with a bracket to hold the outer casing by the driver's seat. Unless you go for a hydraulic clutch or one with a complete outer casing over the cable I'm struggling to envisage how it could work inside the tunnel.

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like the speedo cable is the last bit, then I can stick the padding on.
