Title: Headline question
Post by: invjbo on Tuesday,December 29, 2015, 06:27:09 AM
I am redoing my headlining in my car as the old one was in bad order. The question i have is how is the part over the doors mounted. In my car it was merely glued to the headline and it looked pretty sad.

I am refering to number 18 in the following pic

How is this sorted in your cars? Anyone with any reccomendations?

Best regards
John

On my late TCS parts car, the trim is secured by metal tabs pop riveted to an aluminum base of the trim. The entire trim piece is then held in place by two phillips head screws from the outside of the door opening.

Thank you very much Grumblebuns.

The metal tabs wasn´t present on my trim panels. I Think they were replaced by TPO, I will look into how i could replicate this on my car.

Many thanks
John

No evidence of those tabs on 0701R either. The pieces were just glued in place, crudely.

Initially, I thought that the tabs may have been a feature only found on the TCS but checking three S2s (one running and two bodies), all three S2s have the two screws holding the headliner trim.

Mine were glued in place, also. I don't remember what happened to them but I made my own using velcro and some sheet aluminum. It worked ok on the driver's side but for whatever reason, the passenger's side one doesn't stay well. I'll probably try using some epoxy next.

Well, my solution (which i am not very satisfied with) ended up with a nut on each bolt holding the fixture for the sun visors. I will see if i can sort out another solution later on using some alu sheet cut to size and dressed with some headline fabric. I will probably also opt for the Velcro solution

The downside of the bolts i found out is that the one to the rear end is perfectly aligned with the head of the person sitting in the seat.
