Has anyone looked at this as an option? It's designed for a mk1/2 escort, but with a bit of cut and shut it might work?
Can anyone measure the clearance under the exh manifold to the engine mounting, as a rough guide?

This was my solution. Cheap and readily available.

Another option is what a friend did (see http://www.lotuseuropa.org/LotusForum/index.php?topic=1271.0). They were made in England and I have no idea what it cost him. He had to provide all the measurements so I would think making a second set would at least be quicker if not cheaper. If you're interested, PM me and I can get you in touch with my friend.
Joe's is a common solution and certainly less expensive than my friend's.

There are 'weld your own' kits on ebay as well, but for a similar price, a 'finished' article that needs a little bit of cut and shut would work out a lot simpler, and save time. I think I'll do a test-install of the engine and measure up to get an idea if it will fit.

Hi guys,
Bit of an old post but the photo lotusjoe posted of his manifold, what car is it from?
Cheers Steve

The zetec I bought at the salvage yard came from a Ford focus, and has the same type exhaust manifold.
-
Hmm. Wonder if it's a US market Focus. Nothing like the UK one I have.
-
I *think* Joe's manifold is from a earlier silvertop zetec. Later manifolds look like yours(and mine). *Think* is the key word here.
-
Do a google or Fleabay search for Zetec turbo exhaust manifolds. The aftermarket ones don't seem to be that pricey, or you could do what I did and use the stock manifold, carve off the primaries, purchase mandrel bends and weld up a custom header.
-
I was looking at the turbo manifolds certainly a possibility. Also been looking at the mandrel bends, I don't really have the welding skills. Might be fun to try though.
-
Earlier I posted a link to another thread where I posted these pictures of a friend's ztech headers. They look very nice to me. In case you missed them, they were made in England from measurements they asked for. I would assume they kept those measurements and could make another set pretty quickly and economically. If you're interested, I can point you to my friend who I'm sure will be glad to hook you up with the shop who made them.

Yes I saw the photos, great looking pipes. Not sure they would clear a boot box though?

I think those would clear. They don't look any bigger then the headers I made and I am able to use the box. I did have to take a little off the bottom side to clear the bigger muffler.

I think Dean is right. I emailed my buddy and he thinks his will fit with the boot box. He'll measure tomorrow and let me know. I also asked him to let me know who made them so if the tray will fit with them, hopefully, I'll be able to provide a source for them.

That would be great. I do love the retro bda cam cover with that manifold. More shiny bits....
I'll post some engine bay shots tomorrow.

Dean
this has to be one of my favourite photographs!
stunning car!

I heard from my buddy. He thinks he'll have to make some modifications to boot box. He says he may have to cut out a little in the front and a bit of the bottom, too. He said he may raise the whole bottom a little bit because he has the muffler under the box.
He got them from Dunnell Engines in the UK. Their phone number is 011-44-1449-677726 (that's probably for calling from the US). Ask for Paul Dunnell. As I assumed, he can make another copy quickly and economically since he already has all the measurements and drawings. If Dean can get away without modifying his boot tray with his design, I suspect you could too and there may be some small changes to this design that would allow using an unmodified boot tray.
-
My buddy sent me some pictures of his header situation. As you can see, there seems to be very minor interference with the boot box and that might be able to be reduced or eliminated if they were a little closer to the alternator lug on the bell housing.
-
That looks pretty good, much appreciated a big thankyou. I know of Dunnell, great reputation for building zetec engines. I'll give them a call.
-
A couple of engine bay shots.
-
Very nice!
-
Just spoken to dunnell. Turns out I have one of their old westfield engines. Looking about £600 mark for one of their manifolds. So that's another bit sorted. Just need to find the money.
-
That seems like a reasonable price for something that pretty!
-
Your car is looking great! The transmission mount looks massive compared with the Lotus mount. The coolant fill, attached to the engine, is this a Dunnell part?
-
From what I can remember the thermostat housing came from SpyderCars as did the transmission mounting. They do a zetec conversion for europa's much like their +2 elans.
-
It may have been burton power. For the thermostat housing
-
Thanks! I'll do some looking.
