Title: Identification numbers
Post by: Europa73 on Thursday,January 26, 2017, 02:31:40 PM
Hi all,

Here comes a newbie simple question again. :-(

I am able to fine the engine identification stamp - just under the intake manifold.

BUT,,,

Where do I find the gearbox id stamp

The only number I could find is a cast 10 digit number on the lower drivers side of the gearbox

The car ID plate only lists 5 numbers for the transmission.

Any direction would be appreciated.

Cheers

Transaxle ID number is stamped on a round metal tag held by one of the rear housing bolts.  First three digits is the transaxle number and the next two are the type number.  Currently I have a 395-00 transaxle fitted to mine.

Thanks for the information.

Unfortunately it looks like tag is missing.

The only thing you could do would be get a copy made of a tranny tag and stamp it with your numbers.  Personally, I wouldn't bother.  Matching numbers is a huge deal with Corvettes and the like because there are so many of them*.  Europas are fewer in number, less sought after by the general public, much lower in value and valued by those who have a tendency toward modifications.  Similar condition Europas with one having a 4 speed and the a 5 speed will find the five speed Europa worth more even if it originally came with a 4 speed.

*  lots of fake "matching" numbers Corvettes out there, BTW.  So now documented matching numbers cars are getting the big bucks.
