Driving a late '60s LeMans race car on the street is not as crazy as it might seem. I understand that the cars were routinely driven from rented workshops off-track to the track. I also talked with the owner of a Ford GT-40 Mk IV (same vintage as the Ferrari). He told me that the engine was not that hot and in fact he had lent it to his son to take his girlfriend to his high school prom. I would think that the straight cut non synchro tranny would be a bit noisy and a little difficult to drive in traffic but he seemed not to have any trouble with it. Now, if he really should have gotten better beer!

I have to say that the P4 is one of the most beautiful cars to race at LeMans!

That is a great video. LOL I loved the part where he goes through the Mcdonald’s drive thru.
The P4 and the MK2 GT40 are my two favorite cars from Lemans.

Given what a P4 would cost, I was surprised he didn't live in a grander house so I was a little suspicious but I'm no expert. The motor sure seemed like it might be a race engine. How can you tell it was actually a replica?

It looks very accurate but I got a hint by looking at his other video where it actually says it's an RCR 330 P4. I know RCR (Race Car Replicas) have made a 330 P4 kit.
See his other video here. Also says it's a LS3 engine, so a V8. Also a inverted Porsche 930 transaxle.

By the way, I was a bit interested in buying this kit earlier http://race-car-replicas.com/rcr-962 so I have had some conversation with them in the past.

I think you're obviously right! That just wasn't the home of a real P4 owner! Their kits aren't THAT expensive but after you buy the engine and tranny and whatever else they don't provide, I guess they will be expensive enough. The GT-40 MkII kit would still be less expensive than a Ford GT - and you could use a more authentic 289 or 427!

I agree, not as much money as I first expected but buying/building a decent engine that matches the looks, and also buying a transmission that can take the power from that engine won't be cheap. But still a lot cheaper than buying the real deal....
