That’s what I said but … that would take longer.  Got it de cowled, needs brakes shoes and some fluid . I found the batteries on eBay for about 250$ for all six 12v 20ah lead acid .  I’m still hunting around for something that will fit using the charger limits suits for 72v20ah.  The batteries that were in there were 6-DZF-20 Lead acid. \
Then my other daughter is looking at a sailboat  :help:

Hello

Thank you for the advice! I habitually wear long sleeve T shirts so have not had the pleasure of a fibreglass rash yet. I used a little 1/4 ratchet to get them out and will be using that tool again when the time comes to get them back in. The outlet pipes are definitely blocked and the tops (and bottoms actually) did seem a bit thin. I wonder how much aluminium ones are? I'm starting to think I might need them.

I started to paint the seats today in 2K epoxy primer straight onto the (lasered) metal. Will see how that turns out.

All the best

Berni

More slow progress getting stuff stuck (quite literally at times) to the shell off. Offside door window frame really badly gunked into place, and quarterlight screwed in with inaccessible screws, but finally removed without breaking anything. The door locks defeated me tonight though, lock on the outside turning round and couldn't hold the screwdriver in the lock slot tight with one hand, so will have,  to wait until I can get my son to hold one side. Am I missing a knack to removing the locks or is it just PlusGas and brute force?

Managed to get the unknown locking fuel caps off - the mechanism was seized but managed to prise the cap off one with my fingers and the second one was much easier knowing that. Mechanism very flimsy and had rusted up. Tanks are bone dry, can see a bit of rust but won't know if they're savable until the body is off and I can get them properly checked.

BAT always leave me shaking my head in wonder/disgust.
So many terrible or overvalued cars selling for so much more than than any Europa.

On my one good tank, I primed, painted and undercoated the top of the tank while it was out of the car.
When I repair the other tank (in the future….) I think I will make the top flush with the sides to prevent this issue!

Should be ok then.

When the gear starts popping out, it is because the teeth on the gear do not fully engage with the teeth on the synchro hub.  Less surface area means more stress which means more wear.  As it keeps popping out, this wears a "slant" in the teeth.  Now the gear will continue to pop out even if you fix the reason for the poor engagement.  As 5th gear is pure unobtainium, you are truly hooped.  This was why Banks started fitting NG transaxles.

eBay - Craigslist Ads - Other Listings / '74 Special on auction at BaT

A very original Special is on auction at BaT. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1974-lotus-europa-12/

It was restored very nicely. The body off restoration included upgrading the boosters to Lockheed units and in spite of the non-standard carpeting (and the door panels look unnecessarily sad), they chose to accentuate the fuel catch tank with chrome brackets and even polished the crossover pipes!!

Jumping out of gear is not good.  I know you have resolved the issue that caused the problem but the issue may have started to damage the gears.  Change your tranny oil now and pray to whichever gods you're partial to.

It only happened 4 times, and I think it was caused by the vibration of the engine making the exhaust downpipe hit the gear change rod.

The gearbox feels very good now, better than my other 2 on the road.
