Title: Introduction
Post by: viking66 on Saturday,October 20, 2012, 04:10:00 AM
Hi,

Greetings from Newfoundland Canada, new to this forum and relatively new to the Europa (1970 S2) which I got a s a project having been of the road for +10 years.

Just starting on the engine which is in boxes and going thru what can be reused. In the process I noted that the distributor is stiff (probably an easy fix) which might be the resaon for the engine giving up with burnt thru pistons as a result of preignition some 10 years ago. Also feel that the distributor is small in diameter therefore wonder if there is anyone out there whop know of an alternative to the ducilier unit, had great success with Mallory units on VW"s in the past. I have a lathe & mill in my workshop so a bit of machining to make things work is not an issue.

Brgds,
Marco

Hi Marco, and  :Welcome:

I can't help you on the Renault engine as I have the TC, but there are plenty of others on here with Renault versions so I'm sure someone will be along soon with a comment.  Creating an engine from a kit of parts sounds like something that will keep you busy for a while, but at least it's straightforward and you have manuals to refer back to.  Is that the only problem with the re-commissioning ?

Folks,

Concerning distributors, have anyone of you heard about this company  http://www.123ignition.nl/ as think I could make one of their units work.

Also attaching a pic taken of the car before storing it in the basement of our cabin for the winter while I work on the motor.

All the best
