Is that the original spare tire that came with your car? Were Dunlop SP Sport/Formula 70 the OEM tire, anyone know?

Yes they were the only 175/70/13 tyre available in the UK at that time.

I had my first TCS and a Triumph Dolomite Sprint both running those tyres around 1978/9. 175s on the front of the TCS, 185s on the back. In their time, they were a very good all weather tyre.

This should be my significant 1558th post. One for each cc of the TC engine.

First of all, congrats on the 1:1 displacement to post ratio! Quite an achievement Mr. 4129R!

It looks like some version of the Dunlop SP sport is still available in 175/70R13, but not in 185/70R13. It is very frustrating to try and find vintage tires in both sizes. A tire I am curious about that DOES come in both sizes is the Pirelli Cinturato CN36, which Wikipedia thinks was made for Lotus at some point. Anybody have any experience with these tires?

Back in the day (1974} when I took delivery of 2943R it was equipped with Firestone Cavallino's as the standard tire in the US...

#3496R built 5/73 was factory-equipped with Dunlop SP's.

The Pirelli CN36 (V-rated) was considered a very good tire at the time and was used by several guys owning Elans back them.  ..Perhaps they were standard on some Elans from the factory??

On Pirelli CN36's. I ran these (215/60R15's) on my '65 Shelby GT350 in the mid 1970's. I can tell you they were the stuff of handling. Great drift, consistent slide and traction all in one. I'm glad they are now available again and will run these on my Twin Cam Special when completed. Don't think you can go wrong with this tire although a bit expensive.

FYI, Pirelli's are $162.00 each!
Probably last forever on a Europa but make the Toyo R888's look like a bargain.
