I wonder if in 1974 the feds were starting to update the requirements, since my car has the amber lights. I noticed my 2001 truck has amber lights, too, as well as the red brake lights

Federal spec were archaic and specified that the brake and tail lights work off the same bulb.  Thus the lens being red.  Euro spec had separate tail light (red) and turn (amber) bulbs.

Most seals go “in” from the outside and do not have a flange or retaining fingers to hold them in place.  Front and rear crank seals, most wheel bearing seals and axle seals all work this way with no problem.

Please use a gasket compound on the outside of the seal to make sure it doesn’t weep.  I use Permatex Gasket Maker #3H.  It is liquid at first and helps the seal easily slide in.  Then it hardens into a paste that seals and helps retain the seal.  You could also use hylomar which works similarly.

Federal TCs came with red/white tail lights. The European TCs, I believe, all came with red/white/amber tail lights.

I am not thrilled to let these go as I really like them, but I need a VMC more than I need to keep these.
I have never seen another set and I do have all four.
With a little cleaning, polish, and paint, these would look great on a Europa.
I can get the tires removed for shipping.
Offering here first, I do not want to feeBay them.
I have decided to keep these and sell the wheels that came on my car instead.

Berni29, new Federal car, introduced in https://www.lotuseuropa.org/LotusForum/index.php?topic=6493.msg69872#msg69872 shows the solid red lenses. But googling Federal TCS gives examples of both lens types.

Garage / Europa TCS Tail Lamps
« Last post by Kendo on Sunday,April 21, 2024, 06:08:40 PM »
I'm confused. My 1974 Federal TCS has tail lamps with the orange top half, like picture #1 (if they stay in order). But RD Enterprises calls these European style tail lamps. Pic #2 is what they call Federal lamps. Looking at the schematic for my year of car, I see Reverse (expected for the white section), "Indicator and Brake", then "Rear Lamp". That would drive the three bulbs I have in the fixture.

Now I know Lotus doesn't hold consistency as a deep corporate value. Do you know what the story is on this, what they "should" be, or any clues on what's going on?

The tranny is a bit exposed to potential damage. When my car was new, I damaged the end cover of my 365. I believe I backed into a curb but it's been so long since then that I really don't remember the circumstances. As I remember, my damage was a little different from yours. I took my end cover to a motorcycle shop that did aluminum welding and they fixed it pretty quickly and easily. From the looks of yours, I'd expect it to be a pretty simple fix too.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the replies guys. The motorcycle shop idea sounds good. I know a very talented metalworker and hopefully if I bribe him with enough food he will fix it.
