Title: 821-30 wedge engine intake manifold disection.

Has any tried to split the intake from the exhaust?
I have a crack in the exhaust section and it seems like it can be done .then built a exhaust header system. Any thoughts??

I believe at least one owner has done it. If you don't have a DCOE conversion manifold (Hermes/Else/Warneford) it's the only way I'm aware of in order to go to headers. Be careful how you cut off the intake section though, two of the studs in the head are common to both intake and exhaust when separated.

I suspect Joe will move this out of the Technical section.

This was common back in the 70's.   I have seen several cars like this.

Made some progress on the separation and header spacer-which the intake will be attached to.

Impressive work. Although I'm not familiar with the engine, I think understand what you are doing. Did you cut the openings on the spacer plate with a plasma cutter?

i am following your progress with great interest, as i have been considering this modification.
hadn't considered the "spacer" exhaust header......nice approach!

All work done with hand tools , drills,die grinders.
 
    The exhaust plate will be flared .exhaust tubing will be installed through and welded.
It then will be lightened up a bit by removing excess metal.
The head studs may be enlarged from what I can see and I will keep that in mind.

My other concern is the removal of metal on plate for intakes. Gaskets have a seal between cylinders
So I need to mount to head and blueprint , shave it out.
