Title: 3089R arrives in Norfolk
Post by: 4129R on Tuesday,May 26, 2015, 02:00:57 PM
This gem had been left outside without the windscreen in place so everything under the dash has rusted badly including the pedals and seat runners. I will try soaking the runners in Coke to see if I can get some movement so I can try to unscrew the bottom runners.

So far I have rebuilt front and rear suspension and brakes, drive shafts, cooling system, lights, converted to RHD, renewed most of the interior, taken out E & GB, and traced all the wiring on another in need of, so the only things left are the doors.

I will leave rebuilding the engine to those who have experience of Lotus 1558 T/C engines, as to get that wrong would be a very expensive bang.

The gearbox rebuild should be fairly straight forward, but as yet, I have had no need. There is still plenty of time.

TBPH, these cars are very simple compared with the modern stuff with so much electronic stuff on them. I have been working on cars since 1969 when my 850 Mini stopped in the middle of Birmingham with no drive. With no hurry to get it on the road, working on the TCS can be a pleasurable and therapeutic hobby, with something very nice at the end.

Sounds like some significant progress. Well done. I agree that the outright simplicity of the Europa makes them a pleasure to work on. Therapy indeed.
Your Europa looks to be the same colour as mine, which seems to be relatively uncommon colour, and one I quite like.
