695R Front Lights Mounted
« on: Sunday,December 03, 2017, 11:32:09 PM »
:welder:  Well, I cured my shipwright’s disease long enough to actually complete a task.  All of the front lights have been designed, printed, assembled and mounted.  Other than the lack of paint on the spoiler and a few minor attachments, the front is just about complete.

My idea for angel rings around the headlights works extremely well.  The individual LEDs aren’t seen and the light is distributed evenly on the beveled surface. The second image shows one in action.  My engineering also worked out for the mounting.  Easily adjusted and everything can be removed with three locking SS wing nuts.

Now unless I suffer a relapse of the disease that’s been holding me back, I’ll be starting 2018 with hopes for completion by next summer. Yay!!

The headlights are modular Hela Halogen, the driving lights are also Hela and the turn signals are my own creation.  Standard lights wouldn’t look right inside the half bug eye cutouts. I also wanted them to look more like intakes than lights, so whatever I used would have to sit inside far enough to be unnoticeable when not in use.  Of course that’s like putting them in a cave and they’d only be visible from the direct front.

I resolved things with LED motorcycle turn signals mounted in line with the cutout’s upper edge.  I then formed a surround from highly reflective aluminum sheet matching the curve at the bottom of the bug eye section of the cutout and reaches the underside of the body.  It runs forward to the edge of the opening.  The bright LEDs reflect off the aluminum, forward and out in all directions, filling the opening with light when looked at from above or side.   The lights themselves are in-your-face visible from the front.  Works well and I’m quite pleased with the setup.

Nicely done, very clever way to adapt the Hella modulars to the standard headlight opening and looking good.
