Main Bearing Cap Set Crankshaft Caps bolts Question
« on: Saturday,February 17, 2018, 05:55:04 PM »
HI:I saw a set of crank cap bolts on Ebay with one of them having a collar sleeve.
What is that for?
I remember rebuilding my S2 and I can't remember it having one.
I have a 16TS that I plan to replace the existing motor with but it's in bits and pieces so it's a good time to be sure of what I have(or don't).
Here is a pic of what I am talking about.
Thanks
Bernie

Hi Bernie, Those are head bolts.  My 821 has two spacers like that which go on the timing cover end of the engine.

HI:Thanks.
They didn't look like any crank cap bolts I had ever seen and I don't know if those spacers) are needed on an 807 that I have.
That's the problem of getting an engine in bits!

Hi Bernie,

If memory serves . . the 807 uses two shorter head bolts, I think at the timing end.

HI:Thanks for the input.
I'm putting together "make sure to do points" for when the 807 gets reborn.
The Canuck winters gives one time to think(which can cause problems)!

I rebuilt a 260 V8 for a Tiger that I have and I was thankful for all the "little stuff" I did in the process(re-tightening head bolts after a bit of run time).
When I did the original Europa engine I put some of that sealing material on those paper washers on the wet sleeve/block junction as I saw dissimilar metal
contact as a potential issue(no leaks for many moons).
