Banks Twin Link- fitment issues

trying to fit the brackets to the hub carriers , nothing lines up.. all close but not close enough .. i see from other old threads that this is not an uncommon issue and looks like i will need to cut off the threaded tube and get it re-welded ... was contemplating doing a mod at the same time to incorporate a bracket for the brake caliper on the disc conversion ... any one tried this ? or any other suggestions on better bays to sort the bracket?  cheers

Nigel. Had the same problem.  I cut off the tube that mounts to the hub and then filed the hub where it mounts. The hub is not flat there. I mounted the tube on the hub. I cut off the flange that had a mounting hole to attach to the hub. I sliced the tab that extends to the base of the hub the attached the bracket to the hub. Then welded everything in place. Each hub is a little different.

Thanks Runningwild ... looks like a very nice install on yours .   Question .. did you drill the thread out of the two hub bolt holes? i dont see an option other than to drill the thread out of the tube ?.

Nigel. Yes I drilled those hole out then bolted the tube tight before welding.  Also the hub holes that the tube lines up to are not flush. I filed them flat so the tube would line up correctly. The link bolt hole and the bracket on the hub hole were not the same on mine. I had to drill out the bracket to match the link.  Also the rubber bushing is a lot wider than the hole it is to be mounted in. I trimmed the bushing flat to match the inner metal sleeve.  Good luck

I would be quite annoyed having bought parts from a 'specialist' and you have all that work to do to do to get them to fit. I've had items from the same source with the same problems. Its not good enough in my opinion. It must be particularly frustrating being at the other side of the pond. Good luck anyway

As long as the basic engendering is sound I don't mind fabricating the parts to fit.  They are a great source for parts and updates.  Just don't plan on a quick build.   Tom

The rear uprights are machined to be dimensionally the same in only certain places.  The rest is just rough casting.  So it's impossible to fab parts that will perfectly fit to the unfinished areas of the upright.  For that to happen, each and every upright would have to be machined first -- and possibly built-up with weld in places as well.  The twin-link kit as supplied is pretty close.  Some filing and/or shimming may be required.  This seems very reasonable to me.
