Title: Close Ratio gear set
Post by: Valerio Leone on Monday,June 15, 2015, 09:12:02 AM
Ok here is serious,

I found a super rare old gear set that has been produced by renault during the 60's.
This fits all the 4 speeds gearboxes included our 336.
Since the set is pretty rusted I am going to reproduce it here in Italy.
I will make just 4 kit avaliable from December.

Here are the figures:

43/15 2.87
43/20 2.15
39/24 1.62
35/29 1.20

Hi Valerio,

what does this gearset mean in terms of use? Gears closer together? Does it sacrifice top speed?

Would it be possible to use this kind of gearset on the road? For something like the Tour Auto? Maybe it's also a good time to get new ring & pinions made, so we can convert standard 336 renault gearboxes to Lotus specification?

I like the fact that it isn't straight cut, so the whine will probably be quite a bit less than the people with the Quaife gearbox have experienced.

Do you have an indication of price?

Kind regards,

Serge

Ciao Serge,

This is actually a gear set Made by Renault for Gordini R8.
During the 1970 an Italian driver managed to get this kit for his lotus Europe group 4.
I tell you this layout is the best for road races and for tracks like Spa, Imola, Mugello Silverstone...

The top speed at 7000 rpm is as follow:

1st 77 km/h
2nd 115 km/h
3rd 144 km/h
4th 184 km/h

Sounds good!

Do you have a source for new synchros? Not sure if we can get the correct sizes from Mecaparts.

Keep me updated on the gearset, I'm very interested!

It's not cheap, but it's probably a once in a lifetime opportunity, so count me in.

Quaife is euros cheaper, but is there added tax? Is there also a minimum quantity that needs to be ordered?

Quaife's is a straight cut set, so is very! loud. Maybe too loud to use on the street.
