Is there a non fed carb I can replace the federal unit on my S2?

I replaced the frozen stock Solex with a 32/36 DFEV. It was essentially a direct bolt on. No change of jets were required, just an adjustment of the idle mixture screw. Any 26/36 or 32/36 DG series carb should work. Try ebay.
The Knowledgebase has several threads on this.

Thanks, that is a start. nice to know that is a swap..I likely have one of those laying around. I want to find an early pre-smog Solex...if possible.

The Solex multi barrel carbs were not well thought of back in the day.  It was common practice to replace them with Weber alternatives.  I wouldn't hesitate to do the same myself.

I picked up an almost new replacement Solex 35 DIDSA carb for 65/1098 many years ago to replace the original frozen stock Solex. I decided swap to a Weber 32/36 DFEV instead. Most likely I will never use the Solex again. If you're interested send me a PM.
