Scammer alert!
« on: Saturday,December 30, 2023, 01:01:41 AM »
I have given up on ever seeing satisfaction.
The following persons and email are scammers.
Took me for $220.00 when I fell for Europa parts that were supposedly for sale.
I was sent pics and a price list, the sender seemed genuine.
It has now been several months and all efforts at contact are ignored.
Guess it is a good thing I did not bite on the more expensive items!
ZELLE turned out to not be protected at all.
This rip-off originated at the Grassroots Motorsports forum, not here.

"Howdy, I saw your ad on the forum. My uncle is dissembling his old Lotus Europa and putting some crucial parts up for sale. You can reach him with details of your search at mgbmgacorp(at)gmail(dot)com Cheers,

Names and email I have.

Sorry to hear that Richard, I hope you've posted on the Grassroots forum as well although I suspect the scammer(s) are going after all sorts of enthusiast forums/groups.

I do archery and you hear the same sorts of tale there as well, they just take advantage of the fact that most folks are honest and if you're in a like minded group then you trust everyone there.  It's just too easy to hide behind a keyboard.

I’d try to complain to google, reporting those email addresses.
I don’t know if it would help, but it might. I forgot how to ping a location on the internet, my window 98 tricks.
Thanks for posting , in my spare time I’ll check around.

I tried to do something with Google but got nowhere.
There used to be sites to report scam emails, I will try to locate them again.
I am no longer able to log-in at GRM, someone took offense at an innocuous comment and I am not tolerant enough of such pettiness to make any effort to grovel my way back.
I did send an email to GRM admin, they are closed for the holidays.

Richard, you are the second person I've heard of that has complaints about GRM. It's sounding like there are some ultra sensitive people who run it or are allowed to influence it. The first guy was logging his progress in building and installing a V-12 into a 308GTS. He got fed up and moved his thread to another site (that appears to be his own forum?).

I apologize for being so late to this thread. Who is the offending member?

Yes, a "Dork" from GRM.
And not a newby either.
That is why I got had, did not expect the shaft from an established member.
GRM finally got back to me today and say they "Will look into it".
I posted the warning on several forums as I doubt the scammers only scam on one.

Richard,
What was the sellers handle on GRM?  I've had a similar email about a T5 transmission I was looking for, but elected not to reply as A) I had found one, and B) anytime someone replies with "my uncle" or something similar, I delete the message.  In this day and age, if the uncle can't write his own email, I wouldn't want to send any money.  If they wanted to meet in person, then that's another story.

Sorry, since I can no longer log in at GRM I do not have his "Handle".
Initially the uncle, or at least an email attributed to him, replied promptly.
Just glad I did not "Buy" the expensive parts I was offered.
