4477R Zetec Project

Some photos of my 74 TCS.  Body mods in progress.  Putting in a turbo Zetec.  Will have Spyder chassis and suspension.

Monster with Grey Goose! That sounds like an effective way to relax after cleaning the resin and fiber glass off!

She's looking great! What color are you going to paint it?

So you have two large lower ducts and two NACA ducts? You mentioned using one for an intercooler and/or one for an oil cooler... What are you put behind the rest of them?

Ha!  I ran out of the red Monster zero and had to use the orange that day.  As you can see, the bar is an integral part of the Europa restoration- as it should be.  I am actually immune to the fiberglass itch after all these years.

Color?  That has been a topic of discussion.  My girlfriend wanted orange, but I think that is to played out now.  I'm thinking of going with the classic JPS black and gold- a lot of gold with an exaggerated vintage F1 car look.

Once I figure out the turbo piping and intercooler setup- 1 or 2, and oil cooler, etc, I'll figure which duct will work.  Initially I thought of an intercooler at each large side duct.  I have 2 larger NACA ducts for the fresh air side of the bonnet too.  Now it looks like I will use a center mount radiator and a ducted bonnet too.  The 2 small side NACA ducts may just end up flowing air into the engine bay to help cool it down.

Two intercoolers!! I thought of putting a duct in that area for my oil cooler but I didn't see a good way to mount the cooler there with the fuel tanks.  Aren't the tanks going to get in your way or are you going to use them? Are you planning to autocross the car? I ended putting the oil cooler in the rear with louvers for the exhaust next to the license plate. I found out later that the air is probably going in the opposite direction (in through the louvers up and out through the screens in the boot cover :o ). Of course, I doubt I could have made as nice a duct as you did!

Hi mate seems to be a popular route with zetec ,im going for spyder chassis too nice piece of kit but lots of money for the top options , ive twin 45 carbs burton bell housing twin cam type , espace 5 speed cheers Derek

Hey Derek,

It's probably easier and cheaper over there on the island since all the major suppliers are there.  You could probably visit them in person and pick up your stuff.  We also don't have the newer Renault gear boxes here, so I'm sticking with the TCS 5 speed.  You could spend a LOT of money at Spyder Cars if you went with all the goodies.

Hey Kallericcar,
I see you were unsure of 1 or 2 intercoolers.  I would stick with 1 as the more plumbing you and and the more volume of air between the turbo and the throttle body will induce more lag and cause a boost drop. A good balance of intercooler size for the planned boost you are going to run and the least amount of piping is the ideal set up.  The twin intercooler setup usually only comes into play with a twin turbo set up, like on a V6 or V8 engine or possibly very high boost levels.

... unless it's an Audi TT 225hp with factory twin intercoolers with single turbo 1.8 4 cylinder- :D one of my daily drivers by the way... when I'm not driving the 350hp v8 Touareg and others.

Nice!  I wonder why they would split the intercooler up is is a space thing? :confused:  Not typical of what you want but hey what do I know, just some comments as food for thought.

Well it's kind of a space thing in the europa too.  Only room in the quarters for long narrow coolers.  Actually, given the proximity of things in the TT, the flow works out nicely with the 2.

Got a little done on the project yesterday- trimmed the left side skirt and figured out mounting system for seamless install.
