So far I've had success using this tool in removing the nut for the bearing retainer on the output shafts on two 336 transaxles for seal replacement. Some of you motorcycle guys who do their own work may recognize the tool to replace clutches. This clutch holding tool works well as is without any modification. However,if I were to keep this tool dedicated to the Renault transaxles, I would grind down the tips of the prongs so that the tips fit more snugly into the recess of the fin cavities. The second use of this tool is to flip it over and use it to wiggle the hardened spacer from the casing.
Even though the tool is only around $25, probably not worth buying unless every other tool you've tried failed to work. If you already have it in your tool box, give it a shot. With one hand pressing down on the prong area while turning the handle you can put a lot of force on the nut to keep the tool from slipping and breaking the fins. If you only have a few fins left, I would recommend grinding the prongs for a tighter fit in the cavity.

John, have you used the Summit Racing tool? Does it work well?

For the ultimate cheapskate solution, pick up a $2.00 PVC coupler and use a saw to cut slots on one end, then drill a hole through the other side to slip in a handle/screwdriver.
You can transfer the grooves pretty quickly to the PVC by marking the hub with a sharpie and lightly tapping on the PVC fitting.
